The Department of English was established in 2008 with the goal of fostering language, literature, and life skills for the next generation of learners. Through the study and creative production of literature it aims to improve the lives of students. Students in the English department are now prepared with a broad understanding of language and literature. The faculty members in our department are highly skilled in interdisciplinary research and teaching. Their innovative work in Literary Studies, Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, and English Education transcends conventional boundaries of time, place, and century. This is one of our department’s strongest points.
Our Department has formed the Literary Association in the name of ‘LIT – ORCHARD’in 2008. Our Department launched three years UG B.A English courses in 2008, M.A English in the year 2011, M.Phil in the year 2015. To help students meet worldwide standards, the department provides a variety of courses that will improve their literary understanding as well as their language proficiency and communication abilities in general.
Through the development of a deeper grasp of language and literacy, the importance of critical reading and effective writing, and the richness of literature -both past and present-the English Department enhances students’ liberal education. Our goal is to instill in our students a love of language, literature, and knowledge.
The Department’s main goal is to provide new opportunities for personality development and language skill mastery in addition to subject-specific knowledge acquisition in English literature. It provides need-based programs in an academic setting of superior higher education and instills fundamental, universal ideals found in both literature and daily life. Pupils, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, receive instruction to develop their communicative English abilities in addition to learning about diverse social and national values through reading English-language literature.
The Language Lab, equipped with individual computer facility that provides interactive programmed lessons on English grammar issues and communication. The individualized learning at the computer helps the students to pursue their training at their own pace. The one-to-one interaction between the teacher and the student provides a cordial ambience to the teaching-learning process, which is its unique aspect.
Bridge Course is conducted for all freshers in the beginning of their I semester to bridge the gap between school and collegiate education to meet the students communicative requirements.
Drama Shows and Slide Shows are arranged on various topics on the syllabus to create
interest among the students.
Industrial visits are organized to sensitize students to the practical challenges.
Sri Saradha College for Women, Perambalur is a unit under Sri Swamy Vivekananda Educational Trust. It is a self-financing institution affiliated to the Bharathidasan University, Trichy.
